Yesterday afternoon, I had the honor of sitting for Indonesian artist, Syahrizal Pahlevi, as he chiseled away my likeness, into a woodblock, in front of my very eyes. It took him less than 30 minutes, and when he was done, this is what he came up with (see photos below). He later printed the woodcut onto unbleached cotton canvas, and signed it. Phalevi has been working on creating a series of such portraits, and showing them where and when he can. Most recently, his work was on display in the Red Mill Gallery, at the Vermont Studio Center, in Johnson, Vermont, USA. Click here to view photos of the show.
